1421 in the Spring Series
The sailboat racing season hardly takes a breather around here! One of our Owner-Members, SK, is campaigning his “1421″ in the Spring Series races hosted by the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club of Ventura Harbor. He is using the series to get tuned up for the April Border Run race.
This pic was snapped as they readied 1421′s fancy mylar race sails before the first race on February 13th. The second race is planned for February 27 and the third and final race of the series is planned for March 20th. All of these are “offshore” type races of varying distances.
In the first race last week, 1421 finished 7th in its class. Boats were subjected to rather large 10-12 foot swells with good winds in the 12-18 knot range which made for some exciting and wet moments!
SK has entered the Border Run race instead of the Newport Ensenada Race this coming April. He did this so he could race against the contingent of Newport Beach and San Diego based SailTime boats which have opted not to cross the border this Spring. The race begins off Newport Beach and ends in San Diego.
