1421 Scores Back to Back Wins Against All SailTime Challengers

Published by at 3:02 am under SailTime

1421 did it again! Captained by her Owner, SK Leong, and a great crew, the lone Channel Islands entry overpowered the other five boats that comprised the first ever SailTime Class at the Annual Border Run Race held last weekend.

The 2008 Hunter 36 beat the 2nd place boat by over two hours! Sk believes the race was won during the night as the boats drifted in light winds between Newport Beach and San Diego. His watch system kept the crew sharp, trimming sails and catching any and all puffs. Additionally, 1421 took 3rd place in its division, “Mono XS”.

The Border Run featured over 185 boats in its’ 3rd year of operation as an alternative to the Newport to Ensenada, Mexico race which is considered the pre eminent West Coast race. N2E featured over 200 boats in that race this year. In recent past years, this race had over 400 entries, so it is plain to see that the alternative course that finishes in US waters is gaining popularity. Local Ventura County boats cleaned up at N2E this year with “Afterburner” , Anacapa Yacht Club’s “5150″ and Anacapa Yacht Club’s “Main Squeeze” all winning their classes.

There is a ton of videos to help everyone reminisce this years Border Run!
