America’s Cup Biggest Sailing Fan
Meet Barb ! She is the America’s Cup biggest sailing fan. She got so excited about Port America’s Cup that we had to toss down a couple quick cold Estrella Damm’s just to keep her from jumping out of her topsiders.
Now the score is level at One to One. Will Alinghi rise to the occasion and quash the magicians of Kiwi land or will the heavily backed Emirates team make us all buy expensive airline tickets in 4 years time ? We will know by next week…trivial thought -> Can New Zealand become an Emirates state ? I think they are closer to Dubai than London so perhaps they should give it a go !
But, if you are in Europe, make a point of visiting Valencia, Spain and seeing Port America’s Cup. The Spaniards have done an incredible job of creating a worlds fair type setting for the most prestigous race in yachting and the oldest active trophy in all of sports. We got the opportunity to stop by in between the Louis Vuitton Finals and the start of “The Cup” on the day we finished our charter on Mallorca. It was very exciting to be trodding on sailing’s hallowed ground. Even if NZ gets another go of it, you can be sure the competition will be back here some time again in the future !
