ASA 105 Testing Day for Sail Time in Southern California

105.jpgCongratulations to this seasons graduating SailTime members taking the ASA 105 test today. 105 is the current culmination of our sailing lessons here. Members are required to be ASA certified to 103 to take the SailTime boats out alone. We further require 104 (bareboat chartering) and 105 (coastal navigation) before we let members anchor overnight at Santa Cruz island, the closest of the Channel Islands (18 miles) to our harbor.

What impresses me the most about our sailors is that they are all adults with full time lives, kids, pets, garages to clean, et al, who have carved out the time necessary to become competent sailors. Whats more, most of these folks have been out of school for more than a little while. Getting in the studying groove can be painful !

Here at SailTime we do 105 before we do 104. The 105 is all classroom time and the 104 is a practical multi-day sailing cruise to the islands which utilizes all the skills gained in 105.

At SailTime the rewards of completing 105 are big and that is why we have so many sailors who have reached this level of commitment. Locally, you have to be certified to 105 in order to explore the Galapagos of North America - California’s Channel Islands. Nationally, you have to reach 105 in order to take part in our fun filled Novice to Captain (N2C) flotilla cruise in the British Virgin Islands. This completes the circle of philosophy behind SailTime where sailors get to hone and keep their skills actively sailing new luxury yachts in their home waters which in turn gives them skills and credentials to take bareboat sailing vacations anywhere in the world.

Pretty sweet !
