ASA Sailing Lesson Season in Southern California

Published by sailtimeci at 12:00 am under SailTime

Since I moved to Southern California nearly five years ago to start a SailTime base here at Channel Islands Harbor, I’ve been amazed at when folks around here get interested in sailing. Like clockwork, the week after Labor Day, my phone starts to ring a lot more often. Beats me !? The only correlation I can make to this relates back to when I was a ski industry marketer. Back then, Californians religously got very excited about skiing… around March !

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t blame anyone for this Fall phenom. After living here awhile you can forget what season it is anyway ! In fact, the best sailing is found here when the rest of the country has to put their sailing toys away, shovel snow and perform other cold weather duties.

Above, David and Tammy, our newest SailTime members get some dry land training from Captain Dan before casting off on Sweet Deal, our lesson boat. No, Dan is not pointing where the fire hose can be found on the docks. I think we are practicing what we might do with the tiller handle to make the boat go one way or another.

So, which boat are Dave and Tammy on? We need to watch for them to extend a hearty SailTime welcome.
