Can Alfa Romeo Break All the Records ?
On the “course” from Long Beach to Honolulu, the 100 foot long Alfa Romeo is gunning for not only the monohull record but also the multihull record. If they can finish before 7:17 PM Honolulu Time this evening they will! It’s entirely possible with about 18 hours to go and 400 miles to cover. They lead the Division 1 fleet by over 300 miles. Division 2 leaders are stuck in a cat fight with just two miles of separation after 5 days of ocean racing. OEX, a Santa Cruz 70 barely leads Roy Disney’s Pyewacket, also a SC70.
Criminal Mischief, an R/P45, has run away from the rest of Division 3 and is in 2nd place overall at just under 500 miles from the finish. In Division 4, Tachyon III, and Santa Cruz 52, leads the tightly packed fleet with 700 miles to go. In Division 5, Horizon, a Santa Cruz 50, is just edging out Allure, also an SC50, with about 750 miles to go. Division 6 is led by Relentless, the OD35 looking to break the doublehanded record and on a wire to wire winning pace with just under 600 miles to go. In Division 7, Charisma, an S&S 57, is also poised to have a wire to wire win with under 700 miles to go.
Our favorite Tall Ship, Lynx, which calls on our harbor every year, is pulling up the rear with 1000 miles to go in their adventure. you can watch the race track and view onboard race videos to enhance your appreciation of this very exciting finish!
