Fish Fry Extravaganza!

Published by at 6:35 pm under SailTime

Mike and Deana Ruel, Members of Bodacious, held an impromptu fish fry party last night to celebrate the Fall sailing season in Oxnard. They provided a remarkable spread and everyone else brought along wine…lots of great wine! Mike and his sons are accomplished spear-fishermen and as such we were able to sample several kinds of local fish, including Calico Sea Bass, Perch and Opal Eye. It was cooked with the skill of a fisherman and accompanied by a wonderful salad and rice pilaf produced by Deana. She followed that up with a home made lemon meringue pie!

Our sailing weather here in September has been nothing short of incredible with warm days, light breezes and a cooperative sea. Fall can be the best time of year for sailing around here and it is certainly living up to the bill this year. Based on long range forecasts, October should be a real winner.

October also marks a new sailing event here at the Channel islands Harbor that could become an annual one; The Owners Challenge, will see each sailboat Owner and their crew of Members for a fun race and dock party on October 17th.

It’s amazing what Deana can do in a boat galley — ask Mike for another of his favorite Deana tales on how she fried lobster fritters in 7-foot seas!
