FMF Sailing Memorial Day Style
Our May, Full Moon Frolic, produced a brilliant sunset on a diminishing wind for a hotly contested race that was won by a new Captain on what proves to be an unbeatable boat in light winds.
Under the new Commodore Rules, the fun race’s Captains were picked by draw of qualified 36 Members in attendance, followed by a draw for starting position. This put Bahram Jalali (BJ) in the Captain spot on 1421 and multi-time winner, John McKinney on Bodacious. Dwight Landis took command of Varekai.
From the start, 1421 advanced ahead from the windward position to hold between a 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile lead on the windward leg in a 7-10 knot breeze and post breezy day sloppy seas. The wind held long enough for the race to round Gina and return home. Both Varekai and Bodacious reeeled in 1421 on the downwind leg but eventually ran out of race course. McKinney drove a flawless race that beat out Landis on Varekai in the final 200 yards.
The dock party, always a fun affair, included Landis Tri-Tip and Hervieux Home Brew! The contingent of just returned Sicily Captains Cruise participants swapped tales of their adventures and a good time was had by all on a warm Summer evening.
