Google Ocean is Nice Addition For Sailors

Published by sailtimeci at 7:04 am under Random Thawt

Amidst all the PR hoopla on the news today, I said what the heck, and downloaded the new version of Google Earth which includes the Ocean software. I definitely was overdue an upgrade of this program but its funny, for day to day use, I dont open it up as much as I used to with Google maps right there on the internet. But this Ocean addition looks like it might have some good applications for sailors. It will basically show the contour of the ocean floor in addition to all the other gee-whiz stuff GE already does.

The above view is a shrunken down view of the screen so it would fit here. It is quite a bit clearer at full size. There are all sorts of goodies you can add into the image – shipwrecks – scuba spots – whales that are tagged – probably 8-10 fun options all in all.
