It’s Tall Ship Time in Ventura County

Published by sailtimeci at 11:33 pm under Sailing

What better way to start off the new year than with tall ship visits to our local ports? Even though Channel Islands Harbor now has her very own tall ship, Bill of Rights, it’s always exciting when the visiting ships come to town. Some years, we have seen as many as three different beauties bless our view during the dark days of Winter. But this year we will only see one; Hawaiian Chieftain is here right now.

Hawaiian Chieftain glides into CI Harbor after a day of adventure sailing

In other years, we have had Privateer Lynx. But she has forsaken us here on the West coast for a voyage to the East this year. She is showing off in Florida right now. Hawaiian Chieftain’s sister ship, Lady Washington is getting some refitting and repower back at their home waters in Aberdeen, Washington.

Now through January 20 you can view Hawaiian Chieftain at the Coast Guard docks at Channel Islands Harbor. You can book passage for the sail from Oxnard to Ventura Harbor on January 21, where she will be available for viewing and adventure sails until January 28. Up for some real adventure? You can book passage for a voyage from Ventura to San Francisco from January 29-Feb 2. Go to the Historical Seaport website for further info.
