BMW Oracle Racing aka US 87 finished in fifth place today in Act 13 of the fully 2 year lead up campaign to the America’s Cup in Valencia, Spain. This put Larry Ellison’s team, the only US team in the prestigious series, in 2nd place overall of the challengers, behind Emirates New Zealand team.

Now, its on to the Challenger Matches of the Louis Vuitton Cup which begins on April 16th. It appears that the unfolding match schedule will give the US team several days of racing before they have to meet the New Zealand team in what could very well determine who will challenge the Swiss Defender, Alinghi aka SUI91.

I’m especially excited this time around because I will be going over to Spain in early June and plan a visit to this global sailing circus ! Sailing gets virtually no media play here in the US. In fact, on cable, we are left with the Versus channel out of Canada to provide us with a tiny glimpse of this spectacle. While in places like the UK, France, Denmark et al, this is as big event as our football Super Bowl !
