McNish Classic Boat Race 2008

Published by sailtimeci at 5:04 am under Sailing

As luck would have it, The Cap’n and I were returning from Anacapa, doing Yeomans work on the Big French Girl, when we crossed a group of 2008 McNish Classic participants doing just a bit more than drifting about. It gave me a chance to get some incredible shots with my new 400mm lens. The sea was so flat and the marine layer was like mayonnaise. So it was bright but virtually devoid of color.

Light winds mean close sailboat racing and these old girls were hard at it. We motored right through about a half a dozen of these, close enough to get some great shots. I think i rattled off about 60!

There’s Cheerio II – With her owner, Dick McNish at the helm. I see this boat every day and I never get tired of admiring her or taking pictures.

Dirigo II is a 72 foot Alden double top masted schooner that has circumnavigated and raced the 1953 Tanspac. She is now used for adventure vacation type charters.

It’s great to see the McNish tradition continue. It is a highlight of the Summer sailing season here at Channel Islands Harbor.

I do the Splinters newsletter and would like to get the results for this race. I also wonder if there are any pictures I can use. I would give credit. Splinters is the Wooden Hull YC newsletter.
    Thank you
