McNish Classic Regatta 2010
After more than 30 years of racing around old boats, Dick McNish and his partners at PCYC have created a legendary event for classic yachts to gather at on the West Coast. This year’s 33rd edition happens on Saturday, July 30 out of our Channel Islands Harbor.
Early arrival I couldn’t see the name of for the McNish on Saturday
Dennis Conner is coming back again but this year with a new love, “Fame”, a 1910 built topsail gaff-rigged schooner he is restoring. Most years see 15-20 wooden ships of all sorts, both famous and not, compete in a 17 mile race, followed by partying at PCYC. It’s exciting to watch from your own boat as they tack around the channel between Oxnard and Ventura. From land you can view them out at the jetties or from Peninsula Park.
Dick McNish, for whom the event is named after, will be racing his impeccable “Cheerio II”, a 46ft yawl built in 1931 and once owned by Errol Flynn. Perhaps David Crosby’s, Mayan will come to play again. But, Paul Scripps is confirmed to be coming from San Diego with his magnificent 80 ft “Miramar”, plus many more.

The name of the yacht is CIRCE. We were arriving for the McNish Classic. As it turns out we won 1st place for our category: YAWLS. Placed 2nd overall and Dennis Conner on Brushfire placed 1st overall. Thank’s for the photo. It was a fantastic weekend with all the talented Skippers, Crew and beautiful Vessels. Katherine.
