“Off Season” Sailing Heats Up in Ventura County
This is a big weekend for sailors all across the Northern hemisphere. Its time to put the boat away for the season. Not doing so before halloween can become a chilling experience later. For nearly 50 years, I too, moved to the rhythms of the season. But about six years ago, I was fortunate to stumble across SailTime and saw it as my ticket to a season free existence. I moved on it. I was right! There really is no Fall, Winter or Summer in coastal Southern California. Instead it is a constant Spring here, where every day beckons a Spring-like renewal from the previous day.
Still, Californians are an interesting bunch of folks. No wonder. Most people here, come from somewhere else; probably somewhere that was cold for half the year. So, despite a lack of seasonal change, people who live here act like the seasons are changing; Ugg boots appear, along with jackets. This, despite no actual change in the weather. Here, the harbor gets quiet. Restaurants feel the pinch and our sailing fleet anxiously pulls at their dock lines hoping that a Member will come down and take them out to play with the dolphins and whales.
It’s the perfect time of year to join our sailing club. Our Instructors schedules are less hectic so you can choose your own schedule. And if you are already an accomplished sailor, you can sail anytime you want for just one low monthly fee! Since Labor Day, we have only had a day or two where the weather wasn’t absolutely perfect to go for a sail. Most days are too idyllic for words and even though I’ve been here for several years now, I have to pinch myself most days to be sure I’m not dreaming.
So the question is, what are you waiting for? If you have been holding off joining us for financial reasons, Our prices have never been lower in the past five years. Soon, Winter will arrive. Here on the coast, the weather will be pretty much the same as the previous months with one exception; we may see some rain from time to time. But in between our infrequent Winter storms is perhaps, the best sailing of the year!
