Bodacious Blows Away the Competition…Literally

Published by at 5:02 am under SailTime

Member Larry Pruitt (Decorating Chair) and a band of hearty souls braved the weather to “Light Up the Season” (this years theme) on Bodacious last night. The weather forecast was awful but the weather actually was better than predicted albeit it was a nasty night at Channel Islands Harbor here in Oxnard.

This was year 2 for Larry’s Christmas decorating project a la boat and he really outdid himself. Remarkably, it all ran off the inverter on the Hunter 36 with the engine running. A good portion of the thousands of lights are LED which contribute to it being possible. There were fewer boats participating this year because of the weather but the competition was no less for those who came to take home a trophy.

Which of course, Larry did in fine form; taking home First Place in the Commercial Over 30′ Division. Hip, Hip, Hooray – very well done indeed. And the photo I snapped doesn’t do it justice at all. There was a lot of intricate work and props that dont show up all that well no matter how I tried. Never the less, the last I heard as I was leaving the docks was Larry saying, “Now, next year we’ll have music and…”

I can’t wait to see what he’ll do – and who knows…we are bound to get some good weather for it!

Hey Ken…we wanted to make you proud of your sweet gal! She may not always win the races, but she is the ‘Belle’ of the SailTime fleet. I took her out into the harbor again last night (Sunday) along with John and Jane McKinney and a young couple that they brought. She was a beauty and I know appreciated by everyone who saw her. We even had a harbor patrol escort for a while. I left her lights on at the dock until around 10:30 PM when I went back and turned them off until next year. It was a sad moment. ;>(

Congratulations to all of you! Your boat is beautiful, esp. with all the effort we know you put into it! My bro Julian Munoz sent us the link and we enjoyed reading about it! Happy Holidays, Dr. Gerry and Marty Main

    Hi Marty,

Munoz-Main famil…thank you for your kind words. I have enjoyed working with Julian for over ten years now. This decoration project was a lot of fun to do and even more amazing to observe. I get a bit star struck when close to 4,000 Christmas lights. Here is wishing you a wonderful Christmas season…Larry & Karla Pruitt

Wow, that looks great! And I couldn’t get Eldon to put up decorations on the roof this year! We’ll have to take the kids next year to see it in person. Merry Christmas!
