Perfect Sailing Conditions For July Frolic

Published by at 4:04 pm under SailTime

With California stuck in a foggy cycle so far this Summer it was close to a miracle. At precisely 4:35 PM the clouds dissipated and the sun made a grand appearance for the July edition of our monthly sailing get together; The Frolic, our social sailing get-together we hold on the full moon Saturday of each month.

We were greeted with a fresh breeze that had no intention of dying off with the sunset. The 36′s charged off with single reefed mains and full jibs to a glorious sunset. Gybing around Platform Gina brought us to bear with a fantastic view of the rising full moon. The wind blew 16-21 knots and a rollicking frolic was had by all!

Upon return to our Channel Islands Harbor docks we were treated to delectable Tri-Tip on the grill, salad, baked beans, washed down by brewmeister Jim’s home brew and topped off with Karen’s homemade cup cakes. As someone said, “This is how we roll!” Veteran racer, John McKinney, took the Frolic Cup once again, but only beat Varekai by a little over a minute. So, it was a closely contested race in the sporty conditions.
