SailTime Rendezvous at Catalina

Published by sailtimeci at 3:14 am under SailTime

Members from Southern California converged on Catalina Island at Two Harbors for our first ever SailTime Rendezvous. The weather included sun and a little rain - just enough to wash the boats off - but very little wind. As a veteran Channel Islands Harbor to Catalina passagemaker I was all for making the passage each way at night for a number of reasons.

1) 98% of the time the wind is dead down wind going and dead up wind coming home
2) It’s nice to see lights of the freighters coming and going from one of the busiest ports in the world
3) You get more time hanging out at Catalina !

The trip is about 65 miles each way from our home port because we first have to get out across the shipping lanes. When you only go 7 or 8 miles an hour you dont want to be in those lanes any longer than is necessary.
