SailTime Santa Cruz Island Summer 08 Flotilla
We had a blast this past weekend ! All three Hunter 36′s in the SailTime Channel Islands fleet joined in as did Rainbow, our 33 workhorse and Sancerre played Mothership. Five yachts in all. We had fairly flat seas to start and sailed right out the breakwater on one tack all the way to Smugglers anchorage, 3.5 hours and 19 or so miles later. The wind averaged around 13 knots for a delightful sail. This was our first ever flotilla to the Channel Islands and we couldnt have asked for better. The anchorage at night was a bit rolly but dead calm.
This is what it looked like at sunrise ! As soon as the anchors were down, kayaks and dingys appeared for exploration and with night falling we had a BBQ dinner in the cockpit ! It was downright tropical. Thanks to Brother Dave – aka Link-a-Billy, we gorged ourselves on gourmet delights all weekend long. Too soon it was time to raise the anchor and sail home. We were greeted with a breeze that built into the high teens for our beam reach ride. It looks like the Santa Cruz Island Flotilla will become an annual thing around here ! Â
