Tall Ship Lynx Visits Channel Islands Harbor
The hardest working (and one of the prettiest) tall ships on the West Coast has come calling at Channel islands Harbor in Oxnard. Lynx will be here now through March 18th when she sets sail for Catalina Island and points South. Her weekday ritual while here is educational programs for local students and dockside tours for the public from 4-5pm.Â
On the weekends ( March 7, 8, 14 & 15 ) there are dockside public tours from 10am to 1pm and public Adventure Sails offered from 2-5pm. Apparently, she is entered into the Transpacific Yacht Race that starts from Los Angeles on June 29th and ends in Honolulu 14-21 days later. Lynx still has berths available for that once-in-a-lifetime Adventure! She is a replica of the 1812 Privateer Schooner of the same name and was launched from Rockport, Maine in 2001. I always thought she was a Barque Schooner but did a little investigating this morning to find that Barques’ are three masted schooners. Who knew ?! She is one sexy babe with those gnarly-raked masts, isn’t she?

Saw this beauty out yesterday under full sail during the small craft warnings. I was reefed up to approximately 50 percent of the main on Bodacious at 6.5 knots SOG on a beam reach. This monster blew by under full sail in choppy seas and looked like it was made to enjoy the 25 to 30′s blowing out of 240. The crew appeared to be having a good deal of fun in what is probably playful conditions for this magnificent beast.
