The Butler Did It!

Published by at 5:43 pm under Sailing

For 42 years, The Anacapa Yacht Club has been a driving force for sailing and boating out of the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, California. But on May 1st, they were kicked to the curb with very little fanfare. The club had a wonderful home all that time overlooking the turning basin of the harbor that featured the best sunset views in this part of the world. It was the perfect place for finishing exciting races right in the harbor for all to see. Inside the club, it exuded the history and culture of the Southern California sailing lifestyle for the past half century. It’s all gone now and a wrecking ball will demolish the building to make way for progress…

This very faithful hardworking gang with help from others as well, cleared out the house and took the place apart…right down to the bar top shown here. Now all the memories are packed in a storage container. The club will rise out of these ashes in a new location that will do, but the old home will probably never be replicated given the value of waterfront land these days. The club understands that progress means change and the entire harbor is going through a facelift that crawls at a snails pace through the years. At this point all they can say is c’est la vie. Stay tuned for more info down the road.
