Wet Wednesday Racing
For three years now, I have become involved with the Wet Wednesday racing series here in the Channel Islands Harbor. It is sponsored by the club I belong to - Anacapa Yacht Club and as such not only do I bartend for fun and adevnture, I also am a sponsor giving away a variety of crew prizes. It has been a real labor of love and I enjoy being a part of it.

The Fusee crew shows up every week and is usually in the money. This past week, they got the win! The weekly race consistently turns out 20 or more boats on Wednesday evenings from April to October. Everything from a vintage Cal20 to semi pro teams tuning up on big hot sleds show up to compete. In between, a variety of cruisers with racing in their blood, face off every week for the fun of it and they all come back to the club for a burger, a beer and the awards. It’s an annual rite and one of the only perceptible “seasons” here on the coast where even the temperature hardly changes year around by 10 degrees.
Looks like out friends in the BVI fared ok with minimal effects from the first hurricane of the season. In November, I will be back down there leading a SailTime flotilla with 6 or 7 other boats. Our charter boat provider down there, SunSail, has moved its base out of Maya Cove to the very inside of Road Town Harbor. This is not surpoising as it will give Sunsail and Moorings the ability to share services. Now that they are owned by the same company, it makes sense to use economies of scale - especially when it’s in an endevour to keep a bunch of yacths floatng on top of the water in the tropics.
