Wet Wednesdays Sailboat Racing

Published by sailtimeci at 2:42 pm under Sailing

We are in the thick of the Wet Wednesday sailboat racing season, 2008 edition, here at Channel Islands Harbor. Yours truly faithfully tends bar and sponsors the event with crew prizes and marvels at the commitment of this collective group of mainly middle aged folks who lead fairly normal lives except for this thing called sailboat racing - where they get the chance to make the most of whatever nature hands them on hump day in a mainly, friendly joust out on the sea after work.

For some of the more serious, its a chance to tune up a boat and prospective crew. For instance here’s Eric Schlageter, on Rukus; a 30 foot rocket ship called a Flying Tiger. The latest of the sport boats to make a splash at yacht clubs around the world. Eric and his dad recently raced her at Long Beach Race Week and came home with a 2nd place finish !
