SailTime Channel Islands Sailing Newsletter - December 2007
Ahoy!
November came through with some great Fall sailing weather. Hope you got out and enjoyed it.
We had the lightest wind week I have ever experienced down in the BVI on the N2C Graduation Flotilla. It generally blew around 10 knots - from the "wrong" direction all week long and I understand that phenomenon went on nearly two more weeks before the trades kicked back in.
The clinics get rolling this month and continue till Spring. Sign up early as they seem to be filling quickly this year. Of special note: January will be our annual Safety at Sea clinic inaugural sail on 1421. This is geared towards members who have been with us for a while and haven't clinic-ed lately. There is a couple seats left. In February, we urge new members to take the Anacapa Clinic which opens up your sailing boundaries further.

NOTICES
Welcome back to Cesar Garcia, on Varekai who was gone nearly all of 2007 with an injury. We are glad you are back Cesar and look forward to more great sailing times with you !
Rules & Reminders
We have thrown away abrasive sided sponges that members have brought on board. Unfortunately the scouring pad type sponge surfaces scratch the stove and sinks very badly. So we can't use them on these boats. If you burn a pan or somethinig requires that type of work, leave it in the sink and we will take care of it for you.
2008 Sailing Calendar
To make it easier for you to plan ahead, we are now displaying all clinics and events as far out as we possibly can. This will give you plenty of time to arrange your calendar to include more sailing fun at SailTime. You will find the long term planning calendar on your log in page at my.sailtime.com. Scroll down to see them all and feel free to contact Chris to reserve spaces for future clinics, trips and events.

CAPTAIN DAN'S CORNER
Avast!
Ive been hard at work all month long you skallywags, trainin up some more mateys to toss about the sea! December 15th is test day on Sancerre. Hours of each certification level is given above.
It's also time to make plans for ASA 105 - Coastal Navigation. This is a classroom segment that we do every January over at the Anacapa Yacht Club on Victoria just before the coast guard station. We will run for five Saturdays beginning January 12th at 9am. I guarantee you will pass! But I need you to send me a $100 deposit to commit so that I can go buy all the tools and charts etc, you will be needing. To overnight at the islands and to participate in the Novice to Captain flotilla in the BVI, you must have completed ASA105. So if your plan is to go on the flotilla in 2008, I'll be seeing you in January. For those of you who have already taken 105 but would like a refresher, you are certainly welcome to stop by during the classes as well. Contact me for more information and mark your calendars for January 12th.
Finally, I am going to be come certified to teach ASA 106(Advanced Coastal Cruising) this winter. At which point I will be able to teach you the course as you continue your sailing education. 106 looks like an exciting curriculum. The good stuff so to speak includes sail trim, weather and advanced seamanship skills. If you want to be one of my first students let me know. The ticker is going to look darn fine in your book!
