SailTime Channel Islands Sailing Newsletter - January 2008
Ahoy!
Happy New Year ! What a great year it was and 2008 will surely be even better. Once again we were blessed with a warm Summer. We have kind of paid for it with a prolonged Santa Ana season this Fall. But keep your ear to the weather forecasts as some of the finest sailing occurs in between these weather systems in the winter. We kick things off with whale watching season now through Spring.
This month our clinic is Safety at Sea - an important day for new and seasoned sailors. There is still a couple seats available so make plans to join the Cap'n on Saturday January 19th. Also, January is the month to get started on ASA105 classroom which kicks off on January 12th
UPCOMING EVENTS

Each lecture will start at 7:30 PM and be held in the Community Meeting Room at the Ventura City Hall. Admission is $15 per lecture or $50 for all four. For more information, call 805/794-1747
NOTICES
Please welcome new members James and Lisle Stigler who join 1421 in January!
Rules & Reminders
Furling Mainsails - we continue to have challenges with the furling mainsails. It is important that you treat the process seriously as serious and expensive damage can occur if you dont. If you are unsure of the process please contact Capt Dan or myself to go over it again with you. If you dont furl with the right enroul line while providing tension to the outhaul the sail becomes fouled in the mast and can become completely tangled. Use caution !
Captains Cruise 2008 to Bora Bora
Captains Cruise to Bora Bora in May is now completely full. Captains Chapman, Weisman and McKinney will join Chris for a four boat flotilla of French Polynesia. We are looking forward ot putting together a Fall trip to the BVI, so stay tuned !

CAPTAIN DAN'S CORNER
Ahoy Matey's
Nothing like a New Year to bust out the cobwebs. We kick things off with the ASA 105 class which commences at 9am on January 12th at the Anacapa Yacht Club on Victoria Ave. If you haven't signed up time is a wastin ! Lets git her done ! Then, on January 19th is my favorite clinic, Safety at Sea, which will be held immediately following the 105 classroom that day on 1421. We'll review the latest in Man Overboard techniques, discuss other on water safety strategies and my favorite part, blow off all the old signals that have expired to see just what they do. Its more fun than the 4th of July !
Next month, I will be taking the instructors course so I can teach ASA 106 (Advanced Coastal Cruising). Why not add the next sticker in your book by planning to take 106 with me this Spring ? We can fit it in between all the lessons I am giving to newbies and spouses we are getting trained up this winter.
