 SailTime Channel Islands Sailing Newsletter - February 2009
Ahoy!
Last month saw a mix of Southern California Winter type weather. Both weak and strong weather systems pushed their way ashore with a frequency of every 3-5 days. but in between, saw some wonderful flat water sailing. I went back to Annapolis for the annual Base Owners meeting. It was cold and grey and no place for sailors to be...But we did hear of a number of long term programming projects that are nearing completion. We hope to have our new calendar and member area up and running in the next couple of months. My base may actually be a beta test for it, so we might get it a month sooner than the rest of the bases. The new system will offer much more to members than the current one does and be even easier to use. Stay tuned!
Thanks to all of you who came out for the Membership Appreciation Party held on the last day of the month. We had the largest turnout of members for an event ever. And the BBQ catered by Bobby Weisman was worthy of a Hollywood movie set and very tasty!

UPCOMING EVENTS
March 7 - Come out and Frolic! - Come howl at the moon - join in with other members for a sail and a dock party feast. Reserve your boat or crew seat today!
3/14 - Safety at Sea Clinic - This annual refresher is good for new members as well as old salts. Shoot off fire extinguishers, flares and other incendiary devices as well as practice maneuvers and safety strategies at sea. Contact Captain Dan for space.
April 4 - Tentative April Frolic Date - Contact Dwight Landis for more info.
4/11 - Ventura Lunch Run - This is a clinic with a purpose. Learn how to get in and out of the Ventura Harbor and enjoy hearty victuals! Folks who haven't been into Ventura should contact Dan for space. Other members who have been already can reserve their boat and tag along for a flotilla if there is enough interest.
April 15-19 - Strictly Sail Oakland - The largest sailboat only boat show comes to the West Coast for its annual display
June 7-16 - Captains Cruise to the Sea of Abaco in the Bahamas

Are you planning to travel anywhere this Summer? Don't forget, there is virtually a SailTime sailing base everywhere you go! Plan ahead for a day or two of sailing wherever your business or pleasure might take you. Look for Australia to be added in 2009. For a nominal fee way below local charter rates you can enjoy your destination more than ever before.
Winter type maintenance continues - on all the boats, so if you see wood missing, blue tape affixed to the deck or Colin applying wax you'll know why! Bodacious got her annual major tune in February and the rest are scheduled through the Spring.

The signs of Spring are everywhere. Yup, even I have found myself cleaning and polishing here and there. It's great to see the daylight extend with every passing day and its so nice the Guv-mint has decided to shorten daylight savings time. Don't forget to Spring Forward on March 8th this year. We've got two more clinics on the books to choose from. In March its our annual Safety at Sea clinic. If you like to shoot off flares, practice MOB's and generally get a refresher this is a great way. Then in April, we will have a Ventura Lunch Run to close out the clinic season. Jump on the gastronomic express and learn the ins and outs of the Ventura Harbor.
