March 2005 SailTime Channel Islands News

Spring is in the air at SailTime Channel Islands and despite the rash of inclement weather, there has been some great sailing in between. Days are getting longer too ! So get out on the water again soon! Santa Cruz Island and Anacapa Island adventures!

Captain Dan's Corner

Shipmates!
Anacapa, here we come! AGAIN!
Only Tony Martin was brave/silly enough (circle one) to raise his hand for the last Anacapa day, which turned into a heavy weather/radar/GPS

clinic. Off we went, on a broad reach in winds near 25. We scooted out then down the backside of the island, merrily dodging rainstorms and generally having a marvelous time.

The return leg was, well, excellent training. We reefed her in to about 1/4 of the main and 1/2 the jib and still buried the rail when the gusts hit 30. But I gotta tell you, Imagine was rock solid and that huge dodger was a welcome refuge. We couldn't see doodly out front, but the radar led us in to a perfect approach, just southeast of the breakwater.

No trip to Sea Fresh this time. Tony and I returned to our homemates and crashed.

ASA 105 is underway: Dennis and CT didn't make the trip, claiming they were studying Coastal Nav. It must be true since they (and Tony) did awfully well on lesson one. They charted, plotted and calculated for more than three hours, when they convinced me we needed to go for a sail. That didn't make much sense to me since it was warm and dry, but I went anyway.

My Spring calendar is filling fast, so if you want to get started on your ASA101 or 103 certifications required to take a SailTime boat out, contact me at 750-7828.

Tips for Keeping Your Boat Ship Shape

If you ever have a dry spill in the cabin, there is a small cordless vacume to clean it up easily. Its in the stern stateroom closet on Imagine

Remember, only use the squeegee if you need to clean the glass or plastic. Towels scratch it!@#

Debris continues to be spotted on every trip taken, so keep a watch out at all times.

Sailing School News
We acquired a great Catalina 22 and have refurbished "Sweet Deal", berthing her in the marina in front of H&S Yachts on Victoria. We now have 2 small keelboats to teach beginning sailors.

SailTime Power
SailTime announced at the Miami boat show that we are now offering a power yacht division. We have a partnership much like the one we have with Hunter, with Mainship which manufactures a high quality trawler style yacht. The introductory size is a 34 sedan style which should be good for these waters. Let your power boat friends know !
More info here.
