SailTime Channel Islands Sailing Newsletter - November 2008
Ahoy!
October played its hand in so many ways this year... For sailors in Southern California this meant incredible warm weather sailing as long as you dodged the two weather events which really only closed us out for a day or two each time. We did see lighter winds than usual but I never complain about light winds ! As the month came to a close we saw something fall from these white things that appeared in the sky. It was rain that fell from clouds. Two things we see all too rarely around here. This "winter" type weather seems a month or so early in my limited experience. Needless to say, don't miss out on the great sailing going on just because your calendar says we are deep into what the rest of the country calls Fall!
Colin and Chris will be gone on the BVI trip from 11/6 to 11/17. If you have any problems or need assistance during that time, Captain Dan has offered to be available at 805/750-7828.

June 7 to 16, 2009 - Captains Cruise in the Sea of Abaco - If you have already done the BVI, join us for the 3rd annual Captains Cruise when we will discover one of the great barrier reefs in the world, found in the Bahamas. Contact Chris for more info.
NOTICES
Dredging is supposed to finish up this month, so please continue to be alert when the HM Morris is present. It makes sense to radio them on channel 16 to let them know your passing intentions just in case they would rather you wait a minute or go the other way, etc
Boats in Neutral - Please double check that you leave the gear selector in neutral when leaving the boat from your outing. If not, the next person starts it in gear which is surprising for the user and not good for the transmission.
Current Membership Space Availability - Tell your Friends!
- Imagine - 1
- Rainbow - 1 space
- Varekai - 2 spaces
- Bodacious 1 space
- 1421 - 1
CAPTAIN DAN'S CORNER
Ahoy Mates!
October was quiet for a change, which, quite frankly, was aok by me after a very busy Summer. This month we start the clinic season with our most popular one, out to Anacapa Island and back. You learn about the shipping lanes, windy lanes and anchor chains during this outing. Its essential for first timers and lots of fun for old salts. We may have 1 seat left, so get ahold of me if you want to squeeze in. We take a break during December and then have a busy January with another clinic and the 5-Saturday ASA 1105 classroom, location still to be determined. Now is the time to sign up for the 105 class so I can get classroom supplies ordered. Special awards given to the first sign up!
