Aint never had too much fun !

Rainbow Gains a Gennaker
Cruising spinnaker, Gennaker. The difference between a chute like this and a traditional spinnaker is that the tack of the sail is down at the bow while a spinnaker's is attached to a boom like pole above the deck.

You can fly like the wind, downwind, in light air with this sail. It is very manageable to about 10 knots of true wind. In extremely light wind, 3-6 knots, it can be used as a giant reaching gib, almost like a genoa, quite close to the wind.

It takes some skill to use the sail and quite a bit of thoughtfullness to keep from ripping it. But it can be a lot of fun once mastered and used under the right conditions.

Thanks to Owner/Member, Jerry Roth, Rainbow's Gennaker has arrived and you will notice some running rigging changes on the boat to accommodate the spinnaker halyard.

Want to get qualified to use the sail ? Here is what you need to do.

1) Attend either the Oct 16 or Oct 30 Spinnaker clinic to be held on Rainbow between 9 and 12. The boat will be available for a member to use after each session - call Chris to reserve. The cost to attend is $35.

2) Schedule a private spinnaker lesson with Capt Dan and the crew you are going to use to fly the sail. It is quite possible it might take a few short sessions with the Captain to feel confident with this !

3) You rips it, you buys it. While it is possible to repair some damage to these relatively fragile sails. When we damage this one we will buy a new one and then have them in rotation, so that we always have one. So - respect the expensive property and notify us of any problems. This is a big expensive toy ! Taken care of properly it will serve us all well for some time.

Attention Imagine Members
A co-op of members and Owner, CT has ordered one for Imagine. Do not have an arrival date. But it wont be long !
